Genomic Medicine implementation in low-resource settings
May 6-8, 2020, Santiago, Chile
The 5th Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative Virtual Conference will be organized in Santiago, Chile, May 6-8, 2020.
The meeting will be organized by the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative and the Universidad del Desarrollo as the local host and the Golden Helix Foundation, as G2MC partner. The 5th Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative Conference is the first to be organized in South America, following the successful events in the United States in 2014, in Singapore in 2015, in Athens in 2017 and in Cape Town in 2018 and will focus on the implementation of Genomic Medicine in low resource settings.
Leaders in Genomic Medicine across the globe will be attending this highly interactive meeting to define collaborative projects and strategies that will serve the global community to use genomic advances to improve clinical care. Representatives from the developed and the developing world will share challenges and strategies to overcome them. In addition we will be convening industry and leaders of large genomic consortia to engage in the dialog about the potential to impact health care delivery.
In light of the coronavirus pandemic, G2MC has made the decision to hold the 5th Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative Conference, originally planned to take place in Santiago, Chile, as an abbreviated virtual meeting over the originally planned dates (May 6-8). We intend to reschedule the face-to-face meeting in Santiago for a later date.
Please regularly check this webpage as we will continue to post updates as they become available.

The Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative
Overview
The Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (G2MC) is an action collaborative among global leaders in the implementation of genomic medicine in clinical care. Arising from the 2014 Global Leaders in Genomic Medicine Summit, the purpose of G2MC is to identify opportunities and foster global collaborations for enabling the demonstration of value and the effective use of genomics in medicine. Engaging multiple stakeholders across the globe, the G2MC group, under the auspices of the Roundtable on Genomics and Precision Health, seeks to improve global health by catalyzing the implementation of genomic tools and knowledge into health care delivery globally. To accomplish these goals, seven working groups were created, including communications, education, evidence, IT/bioinformatics, pharmacogenomics, policy, and a steering group to guide and support efforts among working groups.
Specifically, it is intended to:
- Serve as nexus, clearinghouse, and knowledge base for genomic medicine activities globally;
- Develop opportunities for global genomic medicine demonstration projects (implementation and outcomes research) and;
- Capture and disseminate best practices for genomic medicine (in bioinformatics, education, evidence, pharmacogenomics, policy) across the global genomic medicine community.
Current Activities
The purpose and goals of the Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative (G2MC):
- Develop projects with global participation
- Opportunities to disseminate learnings for genomic medicine implementation
- Educational platforms to support genomic medicine projects
- Community engagement and access to global genomic medicine expertise
- Creation of a registry or catalog of genomic medicine projects and programs across the globe to stimulate collaboration and efficiency in translation
- Be a global policy forum for genomic medicine
- Mapping the global genomic medicine landscape particularly as it relates to policy and implementation
- Global eradication of preventable Stevens Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis

Welcome to Chile! Welcome to Santiago!
Here’s some basic information that will be useful when you visit our country:
– Our currency is the Chilean Peso, you can easily find ATMs and you can pay by card almost everywhere.
– The voltage in Chile is 220V. Sockets require plugs with three round pins in a line (with the middle one being an earth) and two-pronged European style plugs can also be used. We recommend that you pack a universal travel adaptor that will allow you to use a hairdryer, electric shaver, charge a mobile phone or other electrical items. You will also need a voltage converter if you’re using appliances from the US.
– In May we are entering to autumn season, but it can be a bit unpredictable so is better to be prepared for cold (specially at the evening), rain and also warm.
Upon entry, you will receive a Tarjeta de Turismo (Tourist Card) which is valid for 90 days and has to be presented when leaving the country. Find a safe place for this piece of paper! If you do loose it, get a replacement in plenty of time at any PDI station before your departure. Those trying to leave without the card will most likely miss their flight or be kept waiting at the border for a long time.
Reciprocity fee
This entry fee, called the Entry Reciprocity Fee, is required of all citizens of Australia and Mexico.

Registration
General registration for the 5th Global Genomic Medicine Collaborative virtual conference is now open and can be accessed through the next link
To reserve your room at the Sheraton Santiago Hotel and Conference Center, please follow the next link
We are pleased to be able to offer this global conference at no fee to you through the generosity of sponsors. However, as space is limited, we as that you register so we may manage space, food, and other conference amenities.
Should you register and then discover you will not be able to attend, please let us know so we may open the space for other attendees.
Young Investigators who plan to submit an abstract should do so through the ‘Abstract Submission’ tab, BUT should also register to attend the meeting by following the instructions in this section.
Abstract submission
G2MC is excited to showcase Young Investigators work at the 5th G2MC Conference in May 2020 and look forward to receiving abstracts from Young Investigators who meet the following criteria in Genomic Medicine Implementation:
– Graduate student,
– Post-doctoral researchers,
– Junior faculty within 2 years of postdoc, residency, or fellowship, and
– Investigators new to genomic medicine within the past two years.
Submitted abstracts should contain recent scientific and technological developments pertaining to genomic medicine implementation in limited-resource settings and we strongly encouraged presentation of original work and results. Abstracts are accepted in the English language only. All abstracts should be prepared according to the Abstract template. Abstracts can only be submitted through Online Submission (link below), and submitters should also register to attend the meeting through the Conference Registration website tab.
Limited support is available for Young Investigators to travel to attend the conference. At this time, we are pleased to announce that the Universidad del Desarrollo has pledged limited travel grants for Latin American Young Investigators. Allocation of the grants will be made during the abstract judging process and you will be notified of this support along with the judging results. G2MC hopes to raise more support to enable Young Investigators from across the globe to attend and will announce those opportunities when they arise.
Hotel accommodations for three nights will be provided by the Conference for Young Investigators chosen to provide a platform presentation during the meeting.
G2MC acknowledges that many investigators are now moving to the field of genomic implementation as this field grows. To recognize and encourage their grown, we are now including these ‘New to the field’ investigators in our selection criteria.
Ten abstracts will be selected by our YIF planning committee for the platform presentations and up to 20 chosen to participate in the Flash Talk session. All qualified abstracts will be chosen for poster presentations.
Limited support may be available for Young Investigators to travel to attend the conference. The YIF Planning committee will contact you when support becomes available. Hotel accommodations for three nights will be provided by the Conference for Young Investigators chosen to provide a platform presentation during the meeting.
The abstract submission deadline is 15 February 2020. Young Investigators should plan on submitting the abstract, a brief biography, and a Curriculum Vitae. Please click on the link below for guidelines and to access /download the Abstract template.
