Genomic Medicine is expected to play a key role in future medical practice. Recognizing the challenges that are emerging from the recent advances in genomics and their impact on human health, the GOLDEN HELIX Symposium features lectures by more than 25 internationally renowned scientists and covers all aspects of this field, including recent developments from deciphering the human genome, cancer and population genomics
and the requirements to bring genomics in the clinic.
Turin is a major business and cultural centre in Northern Italy, capital of the Piedmont region. It was the first capital of the unified Italy and it is often referred to as “the Capital of the Alps”, “the Automobile Capital of Italy” or the Detroit of Italy. The city has a rich culture and history, and is known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, libraries, museums and other venues. Turin is well-known for its Royal Palace of Turin, the Palazzina di caccia of Stupinigi and the Basilica di Superga and hosts some of Italy’s best universities, colleges, academies, lycea and gymnasia, such as the Polytechnic University of Turin. Prestigious and important museums, such as the Museo Egizio and the Mole Antonelliana are also found in the city. Also, Turin is well known as the home of the Shroud of Turin and the headquarters of automobile manufacturers Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. In 2006, the city hosted the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Following the successful organization of the previous Golden Helix Symposia in Athens, Greece, the 2012 Golden Symposium will again revolve around translational medicine.
