"Genomics into Medicine: How YOU do it"
23-26 September 2020, Syros island, Greece
We are pleased to announce the 2020 Golden Helix Summer School that will be held in the island of Syros, Greece, the capital of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean archipelago that will be organized in September 2020.
Contrary to the previous events, this year this Summer School will differ significantly in content. In particular, the 2020 Golden Helix Summer School is themed "Genomics into Medicine: How YOU do it" and aims to familiarize and educate participants with the basic and advanced notions of applying genomic science into medicine. Trainees always face the challenge of learning how to do science by trial and error, and/or while they work on a specific project. They often do not receive any structured learning on the methods and methodologies to be applied to genomic science. They only learn these methodologies over several years. Often, they prepare themselves to become independent investigators without a solid foundation on the criteria to be applied in order to conduct rigorous, reproducible, and eventually successful science.
As such, and unlike existing Summer Schools and conferences, this event will include intense hands-on training. The 2020 Golden Helix Summer School participants will have the chance of applying active learning, by working in teams and in close guidance with the Summer School Faculty and Coaches, to produce presentations and other deliverables that will count towards their final score.
The 2020 Golden Helix Summer School themes aim for doctoral candidates, post-doctoral scientists and possibly fellows and junior faculty members, while they are also relevant for undergraduate as well as postgraduate students.
At the end, a Certificate will be awarded to Summer School participants that will conclude both the Basic and Advance modules.
As with previous events, we have made every effort to minimize the registration fees to encourage participation of researchers from lower-income countries.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Syros, Greece next September and to a very fruitful and stimulating conference.
